simple grow

Simple Grow is a Germany-based ecommerce brand helping hobbyists and home growers build better indoor growing environments through LED grow lights,
grow tents, ventilation systems, complete kits, and educational resources.
The category itself is highly technical. Customers are often comparing wattages, coverage areas, grow stages, component compatibility, and long-term operating
costs before making a purchase.

The challenge

Simple Grow needed a clearer ecommerce architecture that could simplify a highly technical product category while improving navigation, product discovery, and conversion across the customer journey.

Pod Starter Kit

Key challenges

  • Product categories contained a large number of technical products that were difficult for new customers to navigate.
  • Navigation prioritised products but not customer buying intent.
  • Product detail pages contained valuable information, but the hierarchy made it difficult to identify
key purchase-driving
details quickly.
  • Collection pages functioned primarily as product listings rather than buying tools.

Our goal

  • Simplify navigation around how customers actually shop for growing equipment.
  • Improve product discovery across grow lights, tents, kits, and accessories.
  • Create clearer pathways
for beginners and
advanced growers.
  • Improve PDP hierarchy to surface key decision-making information earlier.
  • Reduce friction between educational content
and purchasing.

our approach

Indoor growing is a category where customers often arrive with varying levels of knowledge. Some know exactly what they need. Others are trying to understand the difference between grow lights, coverage areas, wattages, tent sizes, and complete setups. Our goal was to create a store that could serve both groups without overwhelming either.

Discovery to Architecture

Customers were entering a technically complex category and immediately being presented with large product catalogues. While experienced growers could often navigate this successfully, newer customers lacked clear pathways based on their goals, experience level, or setup requirements.

We recommended restructuring navigation around buying intent rather than solely around product types.

The homepage was restructured to create a clearer hierarchy between education, product categories, and buying pathways. Rather than presenting products as isolated items, the site was repositioned as a complete growing ecosystem where lights, tents, ventilation, and accessories work together.

Collection pages were redesigned as decision-making tools rather than simple catalogues. Product comparison became easier, filtering became more meaningful, and category pages began guiding customers toward the right products instead of simply displaying inventory.

For product detail pages, we focused heavily on information hierarchy. Coverage area, grow stage suitability, technical specifications, compatibility information, and key benefits were reorganised to support faster decision-making. Customers should not have to search for the information required to justify a purchase.

Design to Build

Once the architectural framework was established, the focus shifted to translating those insights into a scalable Shopify experience. We restructured the storefront around modular Shopify 2.0 components that allow the team to manage content, promotions, product launches, and educational material without relying heavily on development resources. This creates a more flexible system while maintaining consistency across the customer experience.

Mobile experience received significant attention throughout the project. A large percentage of traffic enters the store through mobile devices, making navigation efficiency, category discovery, filtering, and product comparison critical. Layouts were optimised to reduce friction while maintaining access to the technical information customers need
